Optimal waist circumference cut-off points for predicting Metabolic Syndrome among females of reproductive age in Wakiso district, central Uganda
This cross-sectional study involving 697 randomly selected females aged 15-49 years in Wakiso district, central Uganda, sought to establish waist circumference cut-offs that predict Metabolic Syndrome (MetS). The study found that 49.9% of participants had two or more MetS risk factors. The average optimal waist circumference cut-off was 80.3 cm for females aged 15-49 years, with variations across different age groups. ROC analysis showed good discriminatory capability with areas under the curve ranging from 0.78 to 0.86. The findings suggest that a waist circumference of 80.3 cm is the optimal threshold for identifying Metabolic Syndrome in this population, which aligns with international diabetes federation guidelines.
