Exploring lived experiences on the usage of removable complete dentures among edentulous patients attending Makerere University Dental Hospital, Kampala, Uganda

This qualitative study explores patients’ lived experiences with removable complete dentures among Ugandan edentulous patients attending Makerere University Dental Hospital. Using purposive sampling and interviews with 15 respondents, the study found that patients were generally satisfied with their denture rehabilitation due to positive experiences such as improved speech, eating ability, restored facial appearance, better oral hygiene, and increased self-esteem. However, respondents also experienced challenges including pain, discomfort from loose dentures, inability to eat certain foods, and the need for regular cleaning. The study revealed that patients did not undergo proper informed consent processes before receiving their dentures.
