MakRIF Round 8 (RIF-8) Call for Applications — FY 2026/27 Now Open
The Makerere University Research and Innovations Fund (Mak-RIF), supported by the Government of the Republic of Uganda, has launched Round 8, Track 1 — New Research & Innovation Agenda-Based Grants for Financial Year 2026/2027. The Grants Management Committee invites applications with original ideas that demonstrate a clear link to the national Research and Innovation Agenda.
- Applications open: Monday 31 August 2026 (online only)
- Closing date: Friday 2 October 2026, 11:59pm East African Time
- Grants: UGX 6 billion for at least 58 awards across five categories, up to UGX 150m each
- Themes: seven national priority thematic areas of the Research Agenda
- Who can apply: appointed Makerere academic & research staff as PI/Co-PI
A researcher sensitisation meeting will be held on Zoom on Tuesday 8 September 2026, with a public support webinar on Friday 25 September 2026. Questions may be sent to info.rif@mak.ac.ug; answers will be posted in the FAQ section by 25 September 2026.
