Mortality among children aged 28 days–17 years with pneumonia who are not severely undernourished and the effect of macronutrient supplementation: a systematic review and meta-analysis

A systematic review and meta-analysis examining mortality rates among non-severely undernourished children (aged 28 days-17 years) with pneumonia and assessing the impact of macronutrient interventions. The study analyzed 15 articles with 169,901 participants, primarily from sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. Results showed mortality rates of 3.0% among non-severely undernourished children with pneumonia, with higher mortality (9.0%) among children with moderate undernutrition compared to well-nourished children. The review aimed to address equipoise regarding mortality outcomes and macronutrient intervention effects in this population.
