Healthcare providers’ perceptions on post abortion intrauterine contraception: A qualitative study in central Uganda

A qualitative study exploring healthcare providers’ perceptions on post abortion intrauterine contraception in central Uganda. The study involved 45 in-depth interviews with healthcare providers at 16 public health facilities to understand barriers and facilitators regarding IUD provision and uptake. Three main themes emerged: health system related barriers, challenges in post abortion contraceptive counselling, and motivating factors for scaling up IUD uptake. Key barriers identified included lack of appropriate knowledge and skills, heavy workloads, inadequate facilities, stock-outs, and community misconceptions.
