Exploring lived experiences on the usage of removable complete dentures among edentulous patients attending Makerere University Dental Hospital, Kampala, Uganda

This qualitative study explores patients’ lived experiences with removable complete dentures among Ugandan edentulous patients at Makerere University Dental Hospital. Using purposive sampling with 15 respondents, the study found positive experiences including improved speech, eating ability, facial appearance, oral hygiene, self-esteem and confidence. However, patients also reported pain, discomfort from loose dentures, inability to eat certain foods, and challenges with denture cleaning. The study concluded that while patients were generally satisfied with their denture rehabilitation and improved quality of life, they did experience discomfort issues and lacked proper informed consent processes.
