Safety and efficacy of hydroxychloroquine for treatment of non-severe COVID-19 among adults in Uganda: a randomized open label phase II clinical trial
A randomized open label Phase II clinical trial conducted from October–December 2020 investigating hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) for treatment of non-severe COVID-19 in Ugandan adults. The study enrolled 105 participants, with 55 assigned to HCQ plus standard of care and 50 to standard of care only. The primary outcome was median time to SARS COV-2 viral clearance by day 6. Results showed no significant difference in viral clearance between groups, with median time to clearance of 4 days in both groups. There were no significant differences in secondary outcomes including symptom resolution and adverse events between intervention and control groups.
