On Wednesday June 12th, 2024, part of the Makerere University Research and Innovations Fund (Mak-RIF) Secretariat took off time to engage and sensitize Makerere University Jinja Campus staff about the Mak-RIF Research Grants. This engagement was also aimed at strengthening the Jinja Campus staff Research Administration Capacity for efficient management of grant awards including those funded by the government of the Republic of Uganda through Mak-RIF. This sensitization targeted potential Principal Investigators (Researchers/Innovators), Project Coordinators, and Project Administrators.
It focussed on sharing the Mak-RIF background, objectives, the different categories of grant awards e.g., Competitive grants, PhD Research grants, multi-year grants, needs based among others. The session also elucidated facts about the application process, grant management process, monitoring and evaluation in addition to financial processes.
It is anticipated that this engagement will;
- Improve grant writing capacity for Researchers and Innovators at Makerere University, Jinja Campus with a bias to Mak-RIF grants.
- Increase the number of applications for Mak-RIF grants from the Jinja Campus.
- Provide skills needed for efficient management and administration of Mak-RIF grant awards.
- Improve the Research and Innovations culture at Jinja Campus.
